Name five films that you think everyone should see for whatever reason; powerful, inspiring, repulsive, honest, hilarious, beautiful...

Perhaps try and not repeat the same ones quite a few times, as well.

I'll start;

1. The Dreamers
2. Spun
3. The Rules of Attraction
4. Hedwig and the Angry Inch
5. The Breakfast Club

GATTACA!
it's so inspiring and ambitious. that's the only movie i've seen that i think everyone, regardless of age, gender, interest, career, religion, nationality...
I mean unless your ambition is to be a bum...

But I have to recommend this Indian movie... if anyone bothers, it's called Three Idiots (or 3 Idiots). It mocks the education system in India and even though I am not from India and have never been, it's just too cool and funny. And witty!

In no particular order...

Forrest Gump, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Requiem for a Dream, and then... Well, I'm not quite sure. Perhaps Hard Candy or Thirteen. Or Memento! Well... I'm only sure about three of what is supposed to be five.

Those aren't really films I think everyone should see. They're all simply films that I adore. Requiem for a Dream doesn't quite fit everyone's palate after all...

2. "Ghost World" - excellent young-adult movie, based on comics
3. "Donnie Darko" - abstract and meaningful riddle
4. "Juno" - every teen and parent should see it
5. "Fight Club" and "V for Vendetta" (couldn't choose between them) - the constructive anarchy and meaning of freedom

3. Persona by Ingmar Bergman
4. Metropolis by Fritz Lang
5.El Topo by Alejandro Jodorowsky

and I'd add also any film by Luis Bunuel, especially the Exterminating Angel. According to critics, the films mentioned above are the best movies of all times and if you see them you wouldn't doubt it. No Hollywood-esque special effects, just simple raw art.
