I just meant that you can intuitively or subconsciously understand how letterforms and typefaces go together, how they should be arranged, and how they work with a composition. A good thing. For some, that takes a lot of training.

Improve with experimentation on your own time. Learn the rules and how to break them from seminal designers of the past and present. I can give you a few: Josef Müller-Brockmann, Andy Warhol, Saul Bass, David Carson, Paul Rand, Art Chantry, Jan Tschichold, and Paula Scher, to name a few. But keep going!

technically i'm becoming an interaction designer.

But i think that 'interaction' is a way of thinking to solve problems, or to create new things.
Therefore i see myself more as an Information Designer. Giving form to information, that can become something interactive, or not.

Just some advice:
Lose the search bar on your site. Not needed and it looks tacky because of the background differences.
If you're going to use a picture, make sure it's one that when repeated won't look like shit. Large monitors make it look horrendous. Fade the left, right, and bottom edges to black and add a "background: no-repeat;" to your css.
Also for the love of God lose that lens flare.

Yeah, I'm aware of the background, however, my screen is quite big, so I made it for the size of mine. Which is 1680x1050.
Secondly, yes I've been meaning to get rid of that search bar but I've had lots of jobs so haven't got around to it :)

I would also recommend shrinking the size of the header, so you minimize scrolling. I realize your screen is big, but on my mac, I even had to scroll a bit. It would be an easy fix.

I'm in grad school for graphic design right now. I'm only going into my second year (I majored in psychology, so I had to start from the beginning in grad school), so my work isn't great yet. But here are some things from my Web Design class this summer.
procida.nesadwebdesign.com/assignments/Fogg/FoggHome.html
procida.nesadwebdesign.com/assignments/CraigslistHome.html
procida.nesadwebdesign.com/Instructions/index.html
procida.nesadwebdesign.com/final_project/Final%20Phase/index.shtml
They aren't really as fun or exciting as the things posted above. I'm still getting to that point in my work. =/

My only constructive criticism of your work is I guess what I will refer to as text confusion. You have a lot of different fonts on one piece and that can be good and bad. Nothing in your work is terrible though, but I personally think it could look cleaner if you just limited the variety of fonts.
Though I do like your color combinations

If you're going to do graphic design, you absolutely must study typography. It's mandatory, and frankly I think you'll see it necessary. Depending on the field of graphics you go into, the ranges of pros and cons will vary. There's the corporate side, which can be very dull— designing for functionality rather than aesthetic but there's also a vastly more interesting and flexible creative side—a lot of times lying in smaller, more underground productions. But to get to either, you must first be well versed in the basics. I find it an intriguing field, one that gets more and more interesting as I delve into it. There's no harm in exploring.
