I just thought I would post to see what you guys think about the cities you live in. Are you a unique dresser? Are most people into personal style? Or do they just wear a hollister hoodie and cargo shorts around?
I want to hear about what the average people around you are like, and how it affects your personal style. Do people think you're too into fashion? Do they think things that the lookbook community would find really cool as weird? Have you been ahead of the style, and called dorky or out of style?? haha
I grew up in a small town in Oklahoma, and currently live in Oklahoma City. There are people here that dress really unique. What I like about it is that people aren't into spending too much on clothes, or major labels, but I don't like how there are SOO many people that don't even have a taste in personal style. I think being too materialistic isn't a good thing, but for people to not even try to look decent half the time is another thing.
Actually, with Oklahoma, its not that people don't look nice, we're just not ahead of the times.
Heck, I spent a summer in Tokyo, so believe me, I know its not all like this! O__O

I live in Charlotte, North Carolina. It's a banking and realestate city that is rapidly expanding. The growth has attracted a wide variety of companies, American and International. Style changes a little bit as you move through the different nieghborhoods, but for the most part everyone is kind of plain in my opinion, and often professional-- especially in the areas that I frequent. There aren't many hipsters, punks or anything like that around here.
I grew up in a rural farm town in the Wisconsin and in high school I was always dressing a bit different. Never anything too drastic, but compared to everyone else wearing plain shirts and jeans everyday, my purple uggs or my pink tiger print leggings were enough to REALLY stand out in the crowd.

I grew in Chicago, and in the past few years it has really started defining itself as one of the most fashionable cities in the US. Of course, this is totally restricted to the city itself... venture out into the suburbs and you get the same crap every middle class American girl wears: Uggs, Northface, blonde streaks, bootcut jeans or black leggings as pants.
But Chicago has recently become way more hipster, but not in the same way as LA being scenester or the Brooklynites in New York. Because Chicago is still poorer than LA/NY/San Fran, people have to get a lot more creative with their clothes. Thrifting is super common, and nobody looks down on people who buy secondhand... rather, it's encouraged. People take a lot of risks, like mixing prints or lots of allover denim or just totally crazy looks that somehow work. People especially started to experiment with their hair, I've noticed: crazy cuts, colors, assymetrical, short bangs, etc. The "retro" look is also very in, which I like. There's a huge amount of variety, more so than in NY, where everyone just wears black, or LA, where everyone just wears sandals. I get a lot of my inspiration from my friends from home; generally the 20-somethings in Chicago have really great style! (and come on, with all that horrible weather and wind, the Chicagoans need to be very creative to be fashionable ;) )

I prefer to be different, there's nothing worse than going out and seeing 10 people wearing the same thing!
I live in Perth, Australia which is pretty laid back. Kids my age usually wear singlets and shorts during this time cause the weather is so damn hot! But right now they're all really into trends, so you'd see every second teenager wearing vans, high-waisted shorts (some of us call it denim underwear, since they're so short!), button-up shirts, and crucifixes/rosaries. Basically whatever they see on tumblr...

Here by us ( a small town in Germany) rarely people walk around with a eccentric clothing-style.
When i wear my red Doc Martens show many people on my shoes and talk over it,although I am not so "unusual" running around.
The other girls look all the same, when something is "in" they buy it and feel totally fashionable.
But enough of my friends also have their own style and are open for new and different :)

I live in houston and while there is a really awesome art community here that does kind of dress up or dress more like I do, most people in the city generally don't. like if I go to the mall I see a lot of typical white girl outfits (don't get me started), or people in just jeans and whatever. nothing special. but the entire art department of my school looks like they walked straight out of lookbook and I'm quite proud of that.

I live in Raleigh,NC where for the most part everyone in my high school wears AE,Hollister,Abercrombie,or Aero. I'm more of an H&M and forever21 fan because it has more pieces similar to ones u see on here. I'm always complimented on my outfits by friends and random people, because I try to wear clothing that's not familiar to everyone. I get sk tired of seeing guys wear nothing but polo.people seriously need to branch out down here!

I live in a tiny suburban enclave in the middle of Texas. Obviously, given these circumstances, you're not gonna find a whole lot of deviation from the norm. Its an invasion of the cheap looking rhinestone drenched half- wits and their arm candy in my high school. Oh, I almost forgot cowboy boots and colossal Confederate flag belt buckles. Now, I'm not implying that its their fault. People down here become so entrenched in a mixture Southern tradition and suburban mediocrity, that the ever changing styles and rich culture of the outside world mean absolutely nothing to them. I do stand out , and have harbored a growing animosity toward the rest of the town's population, with the exception of a few friends. Yet, I couldn't have asked for anywhere better to live because here I have the oppurtunity to really stand out and bother people. Which I love.

Well, there is always two sides of every story.
Sure, people dress like that but not really in the areas of Gothenburg! On the pubs i go to, you'd never see a girl with stonewashed jeans.
i'd say that girls almost never have jeans or pants at all in Gothenburg, they only have black pantyhoses haha lol.

In Recife, Brazil, people dress all the same, with short clothes and stuff. I'm a freak there.
I'm now living in Wichita, Kansas, and I see some cool people around here! I'm not exactly normal but most of people like the way I dress up!

I live in Manchester, one of the biggest cities in the UK and we have a lot of areas near Manchester that are considering 'chavvy' where people wear loads of Nike shellsuits and sweatpants and gold chains and stuff which is something I'm too fond of, but other than that I think Manchester has some great style! We've got some amazing charity and vintage clothes shops and I see some really interesting quirky outfits that make me very jealous!
I work in Hollister in Manchester Arndale so I see so many people coming in and out everyday and just look at everyone's outfits!
I love the majority of Manchester fashion, it's mostly quite grungy and unique.

I live in Skopje, Macedonia( probably most of you don't know where that is..google it ;) and teenagers here mostly wear uggs, boots above the knee and floral hair accessories for girls, and for guys... it's different. Girls follow the latest fashion blindy, but the guys.. the blow their own trumpet. I'm so tired of the speed fashion is changing over here, so I wear something that is not usually super hot, something classy or unique. I wear pearl necklaces, leggins pretty often, plaits in my hair, cute hats and unique bags. I like being different than the others and classy at the same time :)

It depends. My school is a pretty nerd tech school so most of the people are just in functional old t-shirts and grungy jeans.
However, in the college of of imaging arts and sciences there's a lot of flair since that's where the artists are. The liberal arts school is hit or miss. The communication majors tend to be a bit trendier. The business school is pretty drab and functional. The engineers and computer science people which make up the majority, are the functional ones.
Now before anyone takes my head off. I'm not saying that those from _____ major ALL dresses a certain way, I'm just noting the visible trend at MY particular institution.
Overall, it's a bit dreary since winter here is eternal so everything is buried under super coats and snow boots.

I live in a very redneck area. Arkansas isn't a very fashion forward state. There are only two girls in my school that are fashion forward. We make our own clothes, and take daring choices to wear anything we see as different.
I have basically been called the "Lady Gaga" of my school. I've worn fuzzy legwarmers for games while I cheer, been the only girl in the school to own some classy black high wedges and NOT had to take them off. If anyone saw me walking around the school in my basic clothes, you would be abel to notice me right off the bat, because everyone here is so cliche.
The girls mostly wear bland leggings, Ugg (ugly) boot, tons of North Face Jackets, and camo camo camo.
A lot of my friends are the type that either make their own clothes, or wear clothes that aren't as normal and blah as the rest of the school's average closet choices.
Above all though, I'm told over and over here in this town that I'm a unique individual, and I apparently even stick out in bigger cities.

Oh long island. amongst the 20-somethings, I look absolutely normal.
But alas, I am 16 nearing 17, and most of the time I look overdressed when I'm out with my friends.
I don't particularly mind people assuming I'm someone's older sister, but it looks awkward when my friends are wearing cheesy tee shirts with logos galore on them and I'm wearing a button down with a bowtie lol

I do see a lot of abercrombie and hollister in my area. I definitely don't dress in those types of clothing. I like to be a little different. When I go into the city, then I see more people who dress like myself.
This was a really great question!

I live in Maastricht a city in the Netherlands, their ar not a lot of people who dress 'different' in Maastricht. A lot of girls wear all the same, uggs and jackets with fur. At my school it is a little different because I go to a arts school, so people dress a little more alternitive. And I think you could say that I have my own style. You can't label me, and everyday I dress different. So yeah I think you present your self with your clothing, It is who you are

I live in PR,its like we're the adopted child of the usa,we get every trend the americans have, but late. When its wearing off over there ,here it picks up. Since its a small island you dont see alot of diversity, for example trends are VERY noticeable here, last couple of months ago "Britto" hand bags were seen EVERYWHERE ,they started making fakes & you could see EVERYONE wearing them, its a very expensive brand and somehow people here managed to make it look & be cheap. The same thing happened with the crocs,we even have the stores here.I tell you,its horrible. You do notice a big effort on alot of youngsters to have a "unique" style, but hey,its kind of hard when u live here, you're either classified under "indie, rocker, "kako",hipster, average, goth, rapper,"guaynabito" etc "kako" comes from a genra of music called "reggaeton" wich im pretty sure u guys have heard of before, its like a cheap rapper or something, most guys who sing this music & their fans, dress like this >.< & "Guaynabitos" are the people called from this county called "Guaynabo" people who live here are usually rich, all the kids are pretty much the same : They go to expensive private schools, their parents drive MBW's or mercedes, they all wear the same type of clothing, same haircut, they only date amongst them, they wear pretty much the same clothings & expensive brands etc We have alot of malls around but we only one who's the biggest & thats where we have the most "different" stores (zara, victorias secret, F21, avercrombie & fitch, gap, Lacoste,Mango etc) we dont really have thrift stores as u can see :/ so yeah, the fashion scene here kinda sucks :/

And it was the beginning of my street style blog tributetothetribe.com where I post everyday a picture of people I met on the streets of Paris and my personal style as well.

I live on Long Island where most people dress in a very casual manner. It's a lot of leggings and uggs, but also a lot of preppy outfits from Hollister or Abercrombie. I'm a goth/punk kinda girl so I still stick out a lot, even though all black is common here, it's the boots and rosaries and such. I also don't ever wear jeans, so that makes me different from all the kids in my college.

Im in Miami, FL. I would say the place i See the most fashionable and unique people is south beach. And thats not ALL the time. Other then that, when u go back to your home area, and go to the mall, u just see regular average people. Some look "nice" but nothing fashionable or making a statement. When i go to eat dinner at restaurants or to the mall and im dressed the way i dress people always STARE. It can be just a regular outfit in my eyes, but people stare. Its like u cant wear a lipstick thats too bright or people will look or a certain type of hat...its just ridiculous! Sometimes I have to get mentally prepared to go out in a fashionable type of outfit because i know what i would have to deal with (whispers and stares) Even tho in my eyes, its not really out of this world what i look like. Just that i look different than other girls. I guess I cant blame ppl if theyr looking at me with intrigue and admiration??!! I do notice little girls stare at me but it doesnt bother me when they do it. I dont really have many close girl friends so im def alone in this. i just dress how i want and prepare for the judgement from the public saying "whats that??" when they see me.
PS i do see some teenagers at the malls sometimes and they are way more daring than most people wearing some of the things they wear. I admire them for that.
