Taylor Swift. I actually like her. Her songs are fun and catchy however the massive amounts of hype and the compultion of people to just throw awards at her makes it hard for me to reaally like her. I think people arent really taking her music for what it is, and theyre making it into something bigger. Like, who the hell do they think she is REALLY?
she just annoys me...sqinty eyed taylor swift ><

Well I will say just because you write your own songs doesn't mean they are goods songs. And people like Ella Fitzgerald never wrote a song nor played an instrument (except her voice of course) and she is hailed as one the greatest, if not THE greatest singer of all recorded music. That said most "kids" on these shows have no idea who Ella even is. It is a show so they pick people who fit certain types, the flaming gay one, the sob story girl, to get ratings... So I agree they don't have much talent just a lot of hype kind of like some LB user on the hot page or top hypes a lot hypes for their body but not much else.

As for covering songs that can be annoying depending on who owns the rights to lyrics. if the actually artist who wrote them like Carole King owns them and she is getting money from it, I'm find with that. I'll listen to the originals and be happy that she is getting paid. But if some big record company own the lyrics the to hell with that I don't want the rich aswipes getting another cent for something they didn't write!

I understand your plight though. In a way it is frustrating but in another way it is great because if I am that popular I must be dumbing myself down for the masses in order to appeal to a wide base of people. Bah! I want cult status. I would rather have a a small group of fans who LOVE my neon wearing, cartoon loving, elitist ass than a masses of people who are following some fad. Let's it face that kind of fame means your either Michael Jackson or The Beatles or Britney Speares and Lady Gaga and we can't all be Michale Jackson or John Lennon. Most of us fall somewhere in the middle when it comes to talent/skill/ etc. Very few become Maria Callas, Miriam Makeba, or John Clotrane, or Barishnakov, or Gene Kelly, or Coco Chanel etc... and I find that that is okay for me because too much fame and you can't really connect with fans on a personal level anymore. When was the last time Madonna did a meet 'n' greet?

As for band I find annoying Parabore, Lady Gag, Rhianna, Disney garbage, Just about anything that samples from classic older songs. I really hate mash-ups (or bastard pop as the Brits call it) because I think I'm going to hear one song and it is something else I hate. killas my club mood.

Did you really compare the fame the Beatles had (and still do) to Lady Gaga's? A billion Lady Gagas will come and go, but a band like the Beatles are timeless.

Oh and I'm also kinda proud of myself for reading that huge chunk you wrote, usually I can't be bothered :)

I just think they sound pretty boring for a band with that many members. I don't understand why people LOVELUVLOVE them so much.

I'm the kind of person who gets usually pretty excited by music, but BSS doesn't do it for me.

Library Voices, they are another weak band with too many members. When I once had the unfortunate fate of seeing them I had to leave after their second song because it was just too happy, it almost seemed like an insult or diss to all of the healthy individuals in the world who have ever felt sadness or anger. As a result I've put them on my secret musical enemies list, I'll let the magick do the rest.

imo gogol bordello's awesome ratio is pretty even, so there's one giant band

also you've just inspired me to create a secret musical enemies list.

Top of the list is Katy Perry. I really don't like her. I find everything about her offensive.

I can't stand Rihanna. N Dubz (particularly that Tulisa woman). Lady Gaga. Fall Out Boy. Bring me the Horizon. Paramore. Alesha Dixon.

That JLS song really irritates me. The "we should of never broke up" one. The grammar makes me squirm.

If I had to pick a few individuals though, they would be Cobra Starship (I used to listen to them religiously years ago... yes, shame on me), Justin Bieber (we are both Canadian, and I believe he disgraces our country) and Mac Millar (overrated, and his music is pretty awful).

all those brainless mainstream pop songs that are built up of 5 notes and 3 chords. Don't get me wrong, the beatles for example once were considered 'mainstream', but their music is far from brainless, that's the point.
Music (as every type of art) is good if it's creative, intelligent and makes you want to think about the world.

I can't stand mainstream music. The lyrics have no depth, nor intelligent meaning.
It is basically money, fame, sex and drugs. I mean "Do you ever feel like a plastic bag?" Come on.
It usually all consists of repetitive meaningless words, some oouhs and aahs, and computer sounds including autotune.
I actually get a headache from songs that the popular radiostations play over and over again. I can't understand why people listen to this.

Music from the rock genres have so much more meaning. Lyrics are poetic, metaphoric and have deeper meaning to it. You need to read between the lines, and interpret yourself, it wont just tell you staright up what it's about.

I think there is nothing wrong is with liking some mainstream songs and bands. What i hate with a passion is when there are some people with this air of " i only listen to rock and indie because mainstrearm music is just sooooooooo horrible". I think it's a good thing to have a wide range of taste involving music and people should just get off their high horse.

Uhhh, there's a lot of people I really don't like. All my friends don't believe me when I say I dislike Lady Gaga, but I really just do. She's always bothered me. I also don't like Owl City, all their songs sound the same, and not very good. And amongst others, many singers/bands people listed in this thread I don't like either. To throw something out here I haven't seen on this thread - I really don't like Bob Dylan. Which is surprising because I love classic rock, but I just can't stand his voice.

As for genres, always disliked country. My dad raised me with a lot of good music, but that I could just never get into. And screamo/emo other thing with irritating voices and too much screaming and or loud noise. It hurts my ears.

I absolutely HATE ''House', 'Hardstyle', 'Rave', 'hardcore' dance type music, I think its just complete mindless shit, But my god this song, this fucking song...... Words can't describe how stupid it was.

I dislike mainstream music in general too but viewing this topic, I realize I actually have some songs from these mainstream singers/bands (the ones everyone here hates), guess I'm not a hipster, haha!! I believe I don't have a bad taste in music though, sometimes you just tend to stumble on songs from artists you don't like or songs that are in a genre you normally hate, unfortunately they get stuck in your head!!

But if I have to pick someone I utterly hate... that would be Nicki Minaj (did I get her name right??) ... & Bieber. There are more though, these 2 were specifically picked out cause I have to see & hear them everywhere.

& can I just ask why everybody hates Nickleback so much?? I'm not a fan, only heard one song of them, but I thought they're a decent band. Does it have anything to do with the members' personalities??

Justin Bieber, mainly because of his fans and his trash music
Nicki Minaj, because of Stupid Hoe
Lady Gaga, because of her songs (Judas?) and the way she dresses (sorry, but that's not unique but just things you get from either a refrigerator or a cartoon character, God knows what else)
Katy Perry, because they overedit her voice and she sounds so different and a bit off when singing live.
Taylor Swift, because she uses her exes to gain money and hate all her love songs, sorry

Well, they all seem pretty mainstream to me
