FIT is in New York, and it's actually a pretty well-known school and prestigious school.
As for FIDM, I'd suggest not going there.. It's only a two year program and it sucks up all your money. I know of the academy of art, but why not a school in any other state? Don't focus only on California. Scad, parsons, pratt, and ryerson are some of the few that are great schools in other areas.

FIDM. The retards in California don't know anything and think they live for fashion and think FIDMs super easy to get into and amazing or something.
Obviously, I don't think it's great.

They have an AA program, and you can stay on after testing in for a BS/BA. Something like that. I'd personally just go in for a BFA at another accredited school.
I've talked to friends in the industry and various art instructors, and it sounds like generally, it is difficult to transfer out of FIDM into four year schools and get jobs right after their program.
Check out OTIS for fashion. If you're looking for a non fashion program, Art Center is pretty amazing. Hope I was of some help! :)

I just got accepted to FIDM. I'm not sure if I'm gonna go though. I applied for their visual communications program. I'm still applying to other schools so we'll have to see... But when I talked to the director, she straight up told me that FIDM is not an art school. They're by far more focused on the business side of the fashion industry. So if you're looking to study fashion design, I suggest not going to FIDM.
I also checked out OTIS while I was down in LA, and I really liked it. I hear that their fashion design program is pretty good. So you might want to try that school.

I'm currently studying fashion design in a university near downtown. Every time I tell someone my major, they always ask me the same annoying question, "Why didn't you go to FIDM?" I know everyone in LA who studies fashion and doesn't go to that school gets the same question a lot also. It's kind of retarded considering people think this is the only place to study fashion know nothing about other schools or because they saw it on The Hills or whatever.

Like previously mentioned, OTIS has a FANTASTIC design program. I've read some reviews on it, and it's been compared to Central Saint Martins. I'm not sure if that's true, but it's sure worth looking into. From what I've heard, OTIS is a universe's different from FIDM; FIDM has a different student body and somewhat artificially orange student body fueled by daddy's money, if you catch my drift. I've also heard that OTIS' fashion design program is damn vigorous, and they only allow (I think it was) 50 or so students declare a fashion major each year. Anyways, take everyone's advice on here and certainly look into OTIS :)
Good luck!

all the girls I know who went to FIDM ended up just working retail after they graduated. If you're interested in design, UC Davis has an amazing design program where you can do an emphasis on fashion. I have a lot of friends who are doing the program and they work a lot with sustainability and greener materials if that's what you're in to. Also, UCs are generally cheaper than private schools

I just started at Academy of Art University for Fashion. It is great so far, and it is the only university that has their own show at Fashion Week in NYC every year. The school is known for having such great talent that fashion houses will hire students who haven't even graduated yet.
It's a pricy school... but they offer financial aid and I think it's totally worth it.

@ E. A: yes i have received catalouges and a big fat book based on their majors and such.
I have thought about that school but my mind is changing constantly on where i can go to a cheaper fashion school in Cal State or UC's. but i still look forward to applying to fashion schools if psyschology does not work for me...

Are you an undergrad? I'm checking out the graduate program in Fashion at AAU, and so far it seems pretty awesome. I've heard conflicting things about Academy of Art, though, which is basically what's holding me back from just applying to transfer. Well, among other things, haha.

FIDM sucks! All of the people I know that go there said so... And i think otis is not much better but at least it's not crazy expensive. Ive taken sewing classes in otis, the stuff they have on the walls in the hallways are just... Oh well u know what i mean. Sorry please dont get offended otis ppl. If i have to choose between fidm and otis of course its otis. And I think FIDM is For-profit???? You know how traditional public and private colleges are non-profit. But schools like university of pheonix are actually owned by corporations. I think FIDM's Associate program is for-profit, not sure about other programs.
