Even worse-
sewing through it when you're sewing leather.
By hand.
Don't sew leather by hand.

I haven't thank god, but I found it amusing that in a sewing class my teacher told a story about someone who stitched through their finger and it was horrible and blah blah, and later that same class a girl stitched through her finger. Oh, the irony.

once, I was sewing and the machine had a kind of lag between the pedal and needle, and long story short it ended with a needle going straight through the top of my finger nail. worse thing of all was that i was wearing red nail varnish at the time, so when i appeared in front of my dad going "i think i've hurt myself" he couldn't even work out what was wrong!

I'm so incompetent at sewing I flat-out stabbed my palm when trying to fix a button. Probably about 5 mm of the needle went in, which is plenty to get me to scream. D:

i got my finger caught in the little spinny thing the bobbin of spool thing sits in. ahahah well i don't know the names of the machine, just how to run it. at my last job, i was a seamstress.anyway, when you press the pedal down and the needle starts going and the bobbin spins. i was putting a new bobbin in, and had my foot near the pedal. without thinking, i relaxed my foot and pressed down. i got my finger stuck, it ripped off half the nail, and it was gushing blood. it hurt so bad i cried.

If I ever got a sewing machine needle stuck through my finger, I don't think I'd have the courage to go near a sewing machine for a longgg time.

Although,I accidently slammed my friends finger in the door last year, she lost like a millimeter off her finger. I felt so bad. T_T

I have a couple of times both hand sewing and sewing machine, but luckily it's only been very tiny so not too painful. It makes you freak out a bit when you do as you'd imagine it would be worse than it is.

I sewed through my right index finger with a sewing machiene in my textile lesson, my foot slipped and hit the pedal as my finger was still there, it did'nt hurt too much at first but the room was spinning like mad! i actually snapped the needle in my finger and had to pull half the needle out of my finger, and i wa still attatched to the machiene by the thread through my finger! It's pretty cool now though, im missing half my finger print due to scar tissue :)

At least once. I did it when I was sewing a costume for Pirates of Penzance and I bled quite a bit, unfortunately the garment was white and we opened in two days. And about a year ago I was pinning lace on a dress and I slipped or something and the pin went all the way through my thumb (from the front to the nail) I have nerve damage from it. I cannot count the amount of times I have poked my self hand sewing.

I once hurt myself with a crochet hook while I made my boyfriend's dreadlocks. (Maybe you don't know how it works, so: Basically you just move the crochet hook really quickly through the dreadlocks). However, the hook got stuck in my finger and it was really difficult to put it out again.
It didn't hurt that much, but I nearly went sick because ... idk, because it was horrible ^^

O_O Oh my god, I never realized there were so many horror stories regarding that topic. I have never had my finger sewn through, but I poked myself dozens of times. I always try and suck up the pain.
Unfortunately, I am forced to take sewing for Home Economics to pass each grade/year level, so I have a high chance of getting my finger pricked by a sewing needle.

Whenever I stop and adjust the fabric my foot always hovers over the pedal. Without thinking My foot dropped hard on the pedal. It was to painful!!!
I've learnt that my foot always will stay well away from the pedal when my fingers are near the needle.

I used to have really long nails and I have sewn through a nail and broken it deep into the nail bed, and that hurt like hell, so I can't even imagine a sewing needle propelling down into any one of my precious fingers.
