I don't collect books. Of course I've read some classic books like "The little prince" or Jane Austen, but mostly at school or from library. I wouldn't buy books in different versions like the English version and German version. I don't need books twice. I just bought the book "Breaking Dawn" twice because of the cover :).

I collect books in the sense that I have a collection of them, as I have of clothes.

But not in the sense that I attempt to buy every book that I lay my eyes on, I buy the ones I want.

I do collect books! But I read them too of course! :) Quite a number of boxes were labeled "books" when I moved out of my parent's house!

I only buy books that I know I'll read again.. unfortunately there's a lot of books I'll read again. Also, I have much more manga than I do proper novels.

There are only certain things that I deliberately have multiples of, and those are things like dictionaries and religious or legal texts (different translations/commentaries can be interesting).

I would like to collect bokes sometime in the future. Reason? I love good books and I love the look that a full huge bookshell creates in a room. Step by step.

I love books and I'd really love to own a book collection! It's a huge dream of mine to have my own personal library in my house, haha. That would be fantastic.

I collect books:

Apr 5, 2011

Most of what's on the bookshelves is everyday reading but I enjoy collecting nicer copies of books I love and incorporating them in my decor, too. (Because I ran out of space on the bookshelves a long time ago.)

@Hi ..

The scariest part is that this is what my book collection looks like culled down from lots and lots of book swapping. :) I have abnormal amounts of media, in general. (There's a whole bookcase just for TV shows.)

I don't buy multiple copies of books (except when someone takes one of my all time favourites and i need to replace it) but when I'm buying books (especially older stuff) I tend to shop used because you can typically get your pick of covers and sizes and get really neat things (my favourite of my used finds is a sixties pocket paperback of 'dharma bums' very sensational little cover somewhat in the style of old movie posters..and it was only a dollar). The only thing I do that's probably overly eccentric is that I only buy Vonneguts in a particular cover theme(which they stopped printing in) so they all coordinate on the shelf. Oh, and when I know a comic I like will be available in trade paperback, I wait instead of buying the individual issues because trades are sturdier and store better. Yeah, okay, reading all that, I'm weird.

I don't exactly collect them, but since I'm portuguese there are certain books that I get both the english and the portuguese version.

But I usually buy the books in English.

Er since I've been accumulating a growing pile since I was 4 yeah I guess I do. They're the reason I don't have enough shelf/desk space and also the reason my eyes are kaput.

Yeah, I collect books of anykind! I still have some of the picture books I had when I was little. My parents get annoyed when they see that there's no more shelf/desk space for my growing library. xP

I don't know if I can say that I'm collecting book but all I know is that I would never throw a book into a bin. I admittedly love to see my books lined up on the shelf :)

No, I borrow books because they're damn expensive and I can't afford them. I borrow either from a library or from my friends. Apart from certain authors whose books I will buy (like David Sedaris) all the books I own I picked up for free or were given to me.

I do in a way, I just collect books that I've bought, or somehow received. I do the same with magazines. I read them all I don't get them then put them on a shelf for decoration. I like to make them have a purpose (books and magazines).

I buy books after I read them, so you could call me a collector. If I want to read a book I have in the original language I borrow it though. I don't think it's neccesary to have books double.

I started collecting antique books (my oldest are from the 1920s), mostly world literature and especially books from the fin de siecle/surrealist-era. Earlier I've collected mangas, but I'm thinking of selling my collection.

I rarely check books out of a library. I will buy them instead and after I've read them, I keep them safe on my bookshelf.

I'm slowly building my own library and it gives me such a sense of achievement to look up and think "I've read all of those books".

I guess that as a grad student of literature I'm basically paid to "collect" books. Of course I could be cheap and get anything I want from the library, but I love owning them and feeling a sense of accomplishment when looking at my library. My boyfriend and I have a room almost specifically devoted to housing our books... we have over 700 by last count!

It's a little silly, because we make so little money and only buy the cheapest version of everything and can rarely afford to buy ANYTHING new... and yet here we have these mountains of books and a room explicitly devoted to them. I guess it depends on what you find important in life, and I suppose books are more important than expensive furniture or a newer apartment.

I don't have room to collect mass amounts of books. I buy real life copies of my absolute favorites, and save the rest for my kindle.
