LET'S GET NARCISSISTIC and show off our self portraits!
I'm not so interested in seeing photography, though, because there are multiple topics in the Photography section that already deal with self portraits. It would be awesome to see YOU through a different material. :D
I use myself as a reference pretty often, but I wouldn't consider a lot of those works a "self portrait" because I just wanted to see wtf a face does in a certain position, for example. Here are some of my own that I do consider self portraits, from high school onward:
Even though mine look kind of weird sometimes, they're still pretty literal depictions of the self. It's my body. In a picture. Because that was probably the assignment, derp. I would LOVE to see work that depicts the self in less literal ways. And if there are other artists' self portraits you love, post them! I'll probably go search for a bunch as well. :D

only self portrait painting i've ever finished, 2 years ago. in the style of frida kahlo for a project, based on 4 of the many sides of my insanely random heritage. if anyone guesses all 4 correct you'll get a cookie.

Alice Neel, what a BAMF:
\
Rembrandt would have been such a MySpace kid if he were alive today, made SO MANY self portraits and loved to pose:
Hokusai was just a lulzy guy:
Yan Pei Ming:
Jenny Saville's Closed Contact series of self portraits is also really brutal, here are a few:
Yasumasa Morimura puts himself into other images and makes wonderful mindfucks:
And all those awesome Cindy Sherman film still-like photos:
AHHH LOOK IT'S YASUMASA AS CINDY SHERMAN:

Apparently so! I would love to see them, they really are supposed to be of an epic scale... So many square footage of squished boobies...

Oh I totally forgot about this, I do in fact consider this a self portrait, it's very small (only like 4" x 7"):

Or at least an imprint of the self. Teenaged angst, hooray.

This was for my photorealism project in drawing class. This project was a demon and I wanted to commit suicide doing it. Spending five hours drawing the lines in my shirt was not a good time.

This one's a little more interesting. It wasn't an intended self portrait, but as I worked on it and talked to my painting instructor he convinced me it was a self portrait. And I got my boyfriend to trace my body for the figure. This painting is a beast.. I think it's like 5 x 5 feet. I have no idea what I'll do with it when I bring it home!

I think almost every major piece ive done of people in my portfolio is of myself. LOL makes me look like some egoist but I just find im the only accessible live model when i have projects to do (I dont like doing things from photos as much).

Did you use some sort of projection or tracing device to create that pencil drawing? Coz if you didn't that is AMAZING!! I really thought it was a photo at first, how do you even do that!?!

Nice!! I also thought of Frida btw when you I read the title self-portrait. I watched the movie a few days ago. Really good, I would def recommend. She was definitely very narcisstic, but then again, if you are stuck in a room with only yourself for that long, it's probably really no wonder I guess. I would probably react the same way and also just paint loads of pictures of myself. If my paintings skills were any good that is! Ha Ha
