Here's the scenario. You're walking down the street with an outfit you really like. This outfit defines you and your personality. Suddenly, people starts looking at you in a weird way then start laughing so loud after you walk pass them.
So, the main thing is how do you react when people mocks you or laugh because of your style? Well of course you must be able to be classy at the same time right?
What do you truly feel? Hurt or you just don't care.

This is different from people criticizing your look.

Well i live in a small town and most of the people know only one look and thats preppy!! And don't get me wrong i like that styling but it's not the be all and end all. And the reason a lot of the people in my area dress like that in my opinion is because they want to be on the safe side and its what everyone else wears. So there has been times when there has been a few funny looks from others but i think thats down to their own ignorance. So i tend to pity people like that because it's sad that they don't have the confidence or the ability to put an outfit together thats a little bit fashion forward and walk down the street like they own it!! I think think we should all celebrate individuality and thats why i love lookbook!!! :):):)

I have never had a stranger laugh at me, or anyone directly laugh at me. I have had my mom or freinds look at what im wearing and kinda laugh while they ask me what it is im wearing.. in a really insulting way. You know how I shake it off. Just know that the people laughing at you have no personal style whatsoever and know absolutely nothing about fashion. :)

Agreed.

I started wearing scarfs on my head and high-wasted skirts when I was five (along with too big cow boy boots and cardigans). I knew how I wanted to look and I was adamant about it. I never wore pants, I never wore pony tails and I wouldn't have been caught DEAD in sweats. My parents have mocked my clothing ever since then, but you get used to it. I'm happy I don't wear jeans and a T everyday. If I did, life would be boring.

I'd laugh back because chances are they're either chavs with no style or the sort of people that dress head to toe in topshop. People with no creativity or style of their own aren't really in the right place to judge what I'm wearing.

Just keep walking; they obviously don't understand my style, and are simple enough to judge someone based on their clothes.

Many people should let go of other people's perceptions of them; the negative responses aren't more important than the positive ones, after all!

I've dressed a bit oddly since childhood,I've gone through a phase where I would wear sunglasses upside down no matter what, so I guess I've gotten used to sniggers and pointed fingers.

And i say screw the haters. they don't know you or have any right to dictate how you should dress or feel. Easy to say I know but it gets easier and easier to believe in this, trust me :)

I live in a town of civil workers so I'd stand out most of the time with my outfit. I might check if there's anything wrong with what I was wearing, like if my undies are showing of if there's a stain or a rip but well, usually when people are laughing it's only because you make them feel uncomfortable, they wanna be like you or have the guts to stand out. I guess you just push them out of their comfort zone.

Best thing to do is to just keep walking and not appear to be bothered by them 'cause usually it is when you react that people will take it further. Just keep on walking like a boss and work that street like it was a freaking runway. x

I've never gotten laughter before but I get awkward stares all the time where I'm really unsure exactly what people are thinking. Especially because I live in a small small SMALL town where almost no one even attemps to dress up or dress nice at any time... I stick out like a sore thumb. But I'm sure if someone did laugh... I wouldn't say anything.. I would just stand there.. stare them straight in the eye.. and smile at them. If people are laughing at you because they want you to feel insecure.. it's only right to make them feel just as awkward by killing them with kindness. If you seem like it upsets you.. it makes them feel like they got the best of you. So I say.. no matter what the situation is.. stare them straight in the eye.. and smile real real wide.

One day I wore these overknee socks from American Apparel, you know, the white ones with black stripes on top? A boy at school pointed at them with another girl and looked like What the...? and I turned around and said "Don't you like it?" He was just like "Uuum...".
That's kinda how I always would react, except if the opinion is really important for me, like my boyfriend's or something, but even then my mantra is "I wear it cuz I like it". I have to feel comfy and good, not anyone else.

I'm confrontational, I don't go for that that keep quiet with my head down pretending that I didn't hear anything shit, nor do I turn the other cheek and simply just silently pity their close mindedness.

I'll walk right up to them, Stare them in the eye and ask in an aggressive manner if they've got a problem, I don't take shit off anyone.
However its rare that I need to do so, I lead a pretty quiet, peaceful life.

As the saying goes, those who matter, don't mind and those who mind, don't matter. As a regular kilt wearer, I put up with the odd idiot who seems to believe that they are somehow superior wearing their American uniforms (T-shirt, jeans, sneakers)... Been called "faggot" by a truck full of drunk teenagers, which is about the extent of what I've experienced.

But I mean, hey. Make no apologies for who you are because in the long run, none of that matters. If I pass by someone who then laughs at me behind my back, I often just return the favor and chuckle to myself, knowing that really THEY are the ones who are dressed funny. I mean, to me, it would be pretty darned strange to pull out an outfit that looks exactly like what everyone else is wearing.

Id rather die then wear what they wore, which was really, nothing, because they all could of switched clothes, and they would of looked exactly the same.

People have laughed at me before and made remarks, but that just means they have no creative side whatsoever to appreciate what i wear. Why would someone want to be boring everyday by jeans and a Tshirt? Sorry if that offends anyone but seriously fashion is a way to express yourself, have fun with it! Some people are just too afraid of taking their chances on the creative side..

Before I wear something. I consider first the place, the people and the activities I am out to do that day. Because if not, I would LOOK a bit OFF.

But on to the question, I WOULD JUST SHRUG IT OFF. if this is me and this is my style, why would i actually care about what people have to say? i mean, there are constructive criticisms right? i listen to those, of course. but if we're talking about people mocking you, that's definitely not helpful in any way.

People like them are either not appreciative of fashion OR they're just plain RUDE.

In my case that usually means I nailed it.

ok, they and I are just have different taste. but that laughing, so loud, on the street, to other person? is very rude. I do not care about someone rude like them!
just for a change, I need a friend of mine to talk to! "hey, how do I look? not bad, right?"

i just feel so comfortable and selfassured that it makes others so uncomfortable about how comfortable i feel;) haha and who cares really, negative comments are driven by complexes and failures anyways, right?

I just give them really disappointed looks and sometimes throw in a 'look at your life, look at your choices'
It doesn't bother me none

I feel like ive been laughed at all my life for my looks. I was always tall and goofy looking (i guess in their eyes) i think i look fine and i like the way I dress. Usually when they laugh i ignore it. but if they catch me when im not in the greatest mood i will say something back to them like "whats so funny?" or "how old are you again?" (because yes, many times its grown adults that behave this way) and theyre usually so surprised that i even called them out on their immaturity that they stay silent. Its pretty pathetic. Another thing is when people stare. like just blatently stare at me up and down. Ill tell them "dont u know its rude to stare?"

I would feel hurt, definitely. But all in all, I'd rather people noticed my outfit and laughed, than if no one noticed me and I blended into the crowd.
In that situation I would retain my confident walk, and act like I had no clue what they were laughing at/I couldn't hear them laughing at all.

I have never been laughed at, but I have received stares and some whispers. I just walk on with confidence. Once I went to a nearby market and I met a girl from university and she said "wow you dress so over the top just to buy food!" in a really bitchy tone and I replied "yes I like to look nice all the time" with a sweet smile. :)

middle finger to the face

I wore really short black cut off jean shorts with black thigh high socks the other day and everyone was like "WHAT ARE YOU WEARING!?" "YOU LOOK RIDICULOUS" "Why would you wear long socks if you're wearing shorts? Just wear pants"

I looked fucking good. I don't care

Nothing. I just strut my outfit and flaunt everything. and flaunt my middle finger then run off. This is a normal occurrence since in my place, the people arent educated well on the so called 'fashion' sect.

I do find some eyes fill with intrigue when I pass by them. I walk like Im in a runway and in my mind I say "Bitch, I fabulous"

I agree with the post above. You should just own the look and don't give a shit. In my place, it's kinda awkward if you wear heels at the mall, let alone boots(the weather here cannot justify it). Lately, I've been wearing heels when I'm on a date and if people would look at me, I'd look back with a blank face and walk right past them. :)

I grin. I find it funny and ridiculous for someone to laugh out of humor or to be malicious at someones outfit.
