I have the same dilemma! Still tossing up between the 2, but after many hours of research, I think I'm leaning towards the Nikon.

@Horton Y.

I was exactly the same and I thought it'd be great seeing as my dad is a Nikon man and he has tonnes of lenses which I was free to use. So I went to jacobs and jessops, tried them out and ended up buying the canon. Even my dad favoured it!

@Rebecca N.

Ah, that just makes it harder for me. Why did you favour the Canon?

@Horton Y.

It handled better, the manual focus was much smoother, the autofocus was faster, it fit in my hands, the kit lens was better quality, the pics are higher res, hd movies are a lot sharper and generally better. Te only downfall is nightime pica are a bit noisier on the canon, but you can hardly even tell. Go for the canon, it's better than the nikon d300

I agree, even if the senzor for the nikon is a little bit larger than canons and it has 2 additional focus points I would go for the canon it's user friendlier than the nikon and slightly bigger it fits better in your hand.Otherwise the cameras are almost identical :

I hope this helps.
