The Chinese government is a big ass bully. Ours, however, is well-aware that we don't have the capacity to rival their warships, that's why we want to bring this matter to the international court. But what's the point of China being an UNCLOS signatory if they don't want to participate in settling this there. They keep dismissing our proposals and resorting to bullying tactics instead.
I doubt that the US will actively meddle with this situation because they have political ties with China too. However, I think the US is kinda fishy, what with all those oil and gas reserves you can explore within the shoal.
This wouldn't have happened if those Chinese fishermen didn't catch those baby-sharks, corals and giant clams. Did you see the picture of their fishing vessel? Those poor clams!!! It would take hundred of years to have them grow that big.
Foreigners should stop raping our marine fauna!

She's just too ignorant to know the difference between 'Scarborough Shoal' and 'the Philippines', a country for chrissake.
Here's an interesting article/loose timeline regarding the China-Phil dispute:

i just read that japan has sent a couple of ships to help guard our coastline... my worry is that this will escalate into something bigger unless chinese officials actually sit down with filipino officials in the international court and settle things amicably (and according to the UNCLOS mandates) along with the other countries that claim the islets as their own.
we are too nice for our own sake, not only with the scarborough shoal issue. a lot of foreigners have been buying large tracks of property under the guise of partnerships with locals and abusing the land yet the government has done nothing to stop this.

This morning I got some really good news,
Then I met my new Doctor (who turned out to be a really great guy)
Then I got some more positive news this afternoon,
Yeeeeah, today has sure made up for the crap week I was having.
Now I need to work on internalizing a big 'fuck you' in my mind towards a couple of people that have been in my thoughts of late, time to move forward, being treated like shit by people who don't appreciate you is overrated, need to get them out of my head once and for all.

Mmmm, little road trips are fun. Until your emotionally drained boyfriend realizes he can't sleep in a car and proceeds to freak out throughout the night.
Thus we stayed in motels. Ah well, saw some awesome stuff! I have photos galore.

Reached a major milestone in my writing. I am 80% done! I need some covers for my three stories, need some peer-review and minor editing tweaks. And then I am done, can format them, and publish them. I am about a month out (or less) from being a published author, you guys.

Legal crap is so complicated. Being an artist is hard. -_-
I'm so excited though. I still have time to meet a deadline for publication in a magazine, and I'm pretty sure they'll take me (especially since this next issue is going to be the sci-fi issue, and that's exactly what I've got). If I'm published in the next two weeks, I might have to just scream incoherently for the rest of summer.

went to an insane reggae/jungle night at a bar in town on saturday. it was absolutely sick, way better than last time I went to it.
The upstairs dancing area isn't massive, but it was still great, and they had a little booth type thing inside where they were selling NOS balloons.
outside they had so much random shit like a fire with bare cushions, giant jenga, a limbo bar etc
and they did some weird raffle for everyone who bought a ticket, the prizes included a tattoo voucher, a bong, rips, blunt wraps and bob marley rizlas...
if any of you ever get the chance to go to a rigsmith event, TAKE IT.

Do you guys have many bike paths? St. Louis has some in a few parts, but otherwise it'd be really hard to go so far there. Sidewalks aren't too good and I'm not so comfortable on the street... last fall I was volunteering at this arts program, had to take my bike on the train, then bike a few miles on overgrown roadside weirdness and cross a highway to get there. Not fun.

We have SOME, but not many. You can go check it out on Google Maps at this link - dark green are park paths, light green dots are street paths. We're getting more though, thankfully. Kevin Buchanan does a lot of work on his ubranization website, Fort Worthology, and he's part of the forefront that's pushing for better urban design, especially with more useful and convenient paths, and more awareness of bicycles as vehicles rather than as toys, as they're usually seen throughout Texas.
But the map I put up there was just my direct route (I have an app on my phone that monitors my movements during bike rides, and gives me metrics on my performance... it's really nerdy). Usually, the places I go don't have bike paths. But legally, bikes are vehicles, and are allowed to take up the whole lane, although bikers are supposed to stay to the right side near the curb. So I just stay in the street and get honked at by asshole vaqueros blasting gangsta rap from their monster trucks, or cranky old women who don't understand how to drive.

the protests against the lady gaga show here in manila are just... i can't. there's no word that will fully encompass the breadth of stupidity these protesters have.
according to them, lady gaga "is a direct affront to the moral and religious values that our nation has been known for." for a supposedly secular country known for its corruption and high crime rate this is too much praise.
i'm not a huge gaga fan, but according to some people who went to the concert, it's amazing and super worth it. get it, gaga. i gotta respect a girl who still pushes through with her artistic vision despite the backlash.
