I've heard they fade really quickly so you'd have to keep getting it re-touched. My sister has some white in her tattoo that she got about two and a half years ago and it's already looking like it needs to be re-done.

See, I've been considering getting one in white, and that's really what I like about them! They're not as instantly noticeable, and when I'm old and wrinkly I wont have a massive tat on my arm!

if it's small and simple without any other colors it looks ok but if not it looks unfinished

White ink doesn't stay at all. Its not supposed to be used for outlines and it won't last, but saying that I have seen some pretty ones. I think quite a lot of reputable tattoo artists won't do it because they know its not going to work.

Actually, it really depends on your skin tone. I have pretty fair skin, but tan really easily. For whatever reason, my white ink tattoos have stayed very visible over several years. A lot of artists will be hesitant about doing them, or will at the very least make it clear that they don't guarantee them because 1. there's the chance that they could bleed a bit (it's a risk you run when you don't outline with black ink) and 2. It could disappear altogether. I think tattoo artists exaggerate these risks a bit to cover their own skin (they obviously don't want any angry customers coming back feeling that they had been misled).
Despite my artist's attempts to persuade me otherwise, I took that chance and lucked out. I get a lot of compliments on both of them. I also have several friends who have white ink tattoos that turned out great.
Note: That photo was taken right after they were done. They're actually more white and even more apparent now. They were done four years ago and have never been retouched.

They look great! It's good to hear from someone who's actually had first hand experience of them as well. Thanks.

I think they remind me of a certain body fluid. Was that too vivid?

I had never heard about white tattoos before. I like how subtle they are. They look so amazing on Devan!
