...or since all designs are a remix of interpretation of others, does it stifle other designers creativity?

What are your thoughts?

I doubt so... Like you said. Remember Ysl and louboutin's lawsuit. And there are so many brands that are dedicated to copying, like forever 21. J. Campbell copies too but not completely. But people would know who the originals are. I think for ysl to produce shoes with red soles doesn't really affect louboutin's sales because louboutin's are louboutin's. And it's not like ysl's any cheaper. Lol

And also, the reason why copyrights are such a big deal in the music and film industry is cos their sales really get affected. But in fashion, people who buys counterfeits might not afford to buy an original. That's why counterfeits are so crazy popular in some countries. (*ahem) they either cannot afford it or think it's not worth it to buy a $2000 handbag. So I guess people who buy counterfeit really might not affect the sales of the original designers'. You see what Im trying to say.
But even if sales do get affected it should be the corporation who worries about it cos they are the people making all the money, not the designers. I don't know how designers get paid but I believe it's not based on sales.
