Awww, I like it how it is!

But meh, everyone's putting studs on everything these days. I'd try dying it, or maybe sewing fabric along the different seams to make fabric pannels, you could mix and match patterns or something. It's kind of hard to explain, but I did something similar to the back of a jacket I have: lookbook.nu/look/1688419-He-said-No-one-in-Carmel-dresses-like-you-do-I-like-it

I'd take it apart and cut out a piece of fabric to match the back piece. Then put it back together, using the new back piece. That way you'll end up with a vest that's denim in the front and something different at the back!

P.S. A leather back would look amazing!

Find some different types of patches of either plain fabric or whatever you'd want and iron/sew them on. Give it a personal, aged look. :)
