I want to know people's opinion on this dramatic hairstyle!
I was once considering to dread my hair, but after speaking to a few people i learned its not so easy; the effort to keep maintaining them!

What do you think?

A lot of people I know really don't like them, but I do. I don't think I'd ever dread my hair, because it would have to be much longer and I'm far too lazy (and I don't even think I'd look good with them), but I really like them on certain people. There are a few girls in my school who have dreads and they really rock them. It takes the right face though, there are people who just don't look good with them too.

I have dreadlocks, and have for over 2 years now. I love them, although on many people they're...not so great. I get compliments by multiple people every time I go out, and a lot of my friendships were started because the other person was interested in my hair :L. If someone is willing to deal with the pain and time involved, dreads are certainly worth it. Unfortunately, many ignorant and close-minded people automatically think people with dreads are dirty hippies/stoners who never wash their hair but that is a load of bullshit. Out of curiosity I didn't wash my hair for a month and damn, that wasn't fun. Dry(oil-free) hair dreads the most easily, so obviously its a good decision to wash it...
I don't encounter other dreadheads often so I don't know what their hair smells like, but according to other people mine smell like normal clean hair. So no, they dont necessarily stink.

I had dreadfalls a few years ago. Much less maintenance involved, temporary and a huge choice of colours/ styles.

Ok, it might be the equivalent of temporary tattoos to purists but I was happy with them. It was amazing how many people thought they were natural.

They can be difficult to pull off, but they can look cool on the right person. You have to be pretty brave and committed to get them. Personally not really my thing. I actually when through a little wannabe 'hippy' phase where I wanted long dreadlocks and a nose ring and I listened to the John Butler Trio and stuff, haha!

No offense to anyone here, but 9 times out of 10, white people dreads just do not work. I think that it's mainly due to the fact that a lot of people try to do them themselves and dreads require a lot of maintenance. My aunt has had dreadlocks for 15 years and she goes to a braiding place to get them re-twisted really often.

So, my advice...If you're gonna do it, be prepared to maintain them and go to a professional or else they'll be gross.

I can smell this chick through the computer screen...

and these are taken care of. So it's totally possible!

Absolutely love them!!!! I'd LOVE to have them, but don't think I'd look good with them so would want them cut out. But as long as you take care of them, they look brilliant

i would never consider doing it to my own hair, but i love it on others. My little brother has them and i'm the only on in the family that doesn't cringe at the sight of them hahah

I wouldn't do it to my own hair, BUT I think it's cool on people who take care of them.

I've had dreads for a little over half a year now, and I love them. My hair is super fine though, so it's a challenge keeping loose hair under control. I still think it's worth it, I love being able to easily tie my hair up in a bun (it used to never stay held by hairties), and I love how they look and feel. Another great benefit is that I don't get bedhead anymore!

I would never do it to my hair, because I change my hair color/style far too often and would get tired of dreads just as easily. The only person I know that looks good with them was this girl in my creative writing class, and she's had them for years. Her entire family has dreadlocks, because it's a family tradition, which is actually really fricken cool.
