I am curious to know everyone's reasons for thifting. Also, how was it your first time? Were you nervous?

I started thrifting about 2 years ago because I love variety and love to change my looks and styles very often.Let`s say I prefer quatntity over quality. When I realised I feel as happy atfer thrifting as after usuall mall shopping,I decided, why paying more? Also, its so simple buying new collection or designer clothes and looking good, and picking good clothes from thrifts shop is quite an art.It makes so much more room for creativity :)

I've been thrifting my whole life, because I've never had much money to buy new things. :)

I have to admit I used to hate thrift shopping when I was a little girl. I used to only want brand new clothes, especially from the mall. As I began to grow up, I got tired of wearing similar clothes as everyone else. Anyone can go to the mall and get an outfit that isn't as original as one opposed to buying at a thrift store. At a thrift store you have more variety and character in the clothing, which makes it funner to wear and you stand out more. You can always find the neatest items. Plus, it doesn't hurt to save a couple of bucks. That is why I started thrift shopping (:

Why can't they be fashion based?
I've picked up awesome vintage clothes in charity shops.

I've been thrifting since I was born, like Clove. My family didn't have money for new clothes unless they were from Kmart. In high school I kept going to the thrift store because it was the only place I could afford quality clothes; even though I have enough money now to buy brand-new clothes, thrifting is so much more fun, and so much better for the environment! Of course thrifting is fashion forward; ask any editor of a major fashion magazine, and they'll say that even they love thrifting, believe me.

a lot of times i don't like having the same thing someone else has, like sometimes when i get things at urban outfitters, so i go to thrift stores to get really unique things.
sometimes you can find great vintage things for an awesome deal.
for the most part i don't buy things made in the last 30 years at thrift stores.

I LOVE to thrift. I can always find interesting things I can't find in "brand" stores anymore. A lot of vintage things as well. It's kinda like a scavenger hunt. I try to look for stains and holes inside and out before I buy it. I ALWAYS remember to wash it too. At first I was kinda hesitant because my family would go because we were poor and I didn't want my friends making fun of me. However, as I grew older I realized it shouldn't matter where you buy your clothes from. Who cares if it was some one else's, at least it's being re-used fashionably. :)

I'm one of 2, and we are two of 9 children ~ our mum used to wash our clothes and they would always come out different colours and shapes. We hated thrift shopping when all the other kids were wearing new clothes, we were in daggy's...
I'm a fashion designer now, so I don't thrift as much as my peer's, but my twin sister is known to find some gems

I started visiting second hand shops when I was about twelve years old. I'm still thrifting because of the same reasons as then: you can buy unique clothes and will never know what you may find. I'm also trying to live ecologically and don't mind saving money.

I needed an ugly Christmas sweater, haha. I could have gotten one at JCPenney, but they were seriously like $60. So my mother and I made a day of it and ended up finding really interesting things. I've always wanted to start thrifting, just to find coll clothes, but my local thrift stores suck to be honest. We found some Goodwill Boutiques and other stores that never fail though! Now when I see a shirt for more than $6, I'm like, "Are you kidding? I can find something better at Goodwill for $3.", haha.

When did I start? Always I guess.. I use to stay with my nana out on a farm, her younger daughters where only a few years older than me.. they were my rolemodels..
One of them was a " Bohemian" the other loved all things mod and they also loved 1940s wear..
So we all use to go thrifting for fun, ( theres hardly any other stores out in rural NZ..) and I just grew up to love it...
Why? Because i love the thrill of finding a real treasure through all the crap! Plus it teaches you patience, appreciation, and trains a keen eye.. Thrift stores suit me. theyre unique, quirky, generally full of crap, but great once you get to know them.. Ive found some awesome, pieces over my times, invaluable, immortal treasures.. and theyre cheap of course!
And Im a broke-ass English student.. :(
But yeah.. I like to mix. A vintage statement piece, something designer, a little chainstore..

I'm the youngest girl in my family and so I always get hand me downs. So naturally, I'd gravitate towards clothes that aren't brand new but still have that spunk.

I started thrifting because I started finding things that were better quality and more interesting than the stores that sold new clothes in town. And they are way cheaper too!

Because my family didn't have enough money to always buy new clothes for my siblings and me, haha.
When I was young, they didn't have any thrift stores nearby, so aside from Christmas my clothes were mostly hand-me-downs from family friends, but good stuff, I remember loving when my mum came in with a big bag of kids clothes from her friends to sift through.
Now I go to value village, which is big, cheap and takes a lot of hunting to find good stuff, and a much smaller consignment store. The prices are a little higher in that store but still a great deal, and they're very selective of what clothing they take on; it has to be in good condition and current styles. Also if they sell your clothes, you get 10% back of what they sell for in store credit.

I started thrifting because my best friend wa thrifting all the time. And she was so stylish!
In the begging it was very frustrated because I had no idea of what to buy. I was looking around me and seeing girls with the cutest dresses and other beautiful things in their hands… and I seemed to end up only with ugly sweaters and huge polyester rags. But I kept thrifting. And today I’m the one arousing jealousy with the gems I can thrift out of a pile of unwearable crap.

I started thrifting because my mom would go on little trips to the thrift store every so often to find unique design pieces for the house, so I stumbled across the clothes, and realized how good some of the clothes are, and how I could really buy clothes A LOT cheaper there. Also, when I have a DIY in mind, it's usually thrift store clothes. Half of my wardrobe is thrifted, no joke. LOL

Because I'm poor as fuck ;] It's pretty satisfying to go to the goodwill and buy a sweater or something for $3. Sometimes you just have to look hard, and you'll find something you like.

I've been thrifting ever since I was a kid, basically because my mum loves it so much. Now I go out with my friends, because shopping is a lot more fun that way!

I started thrifting, not only because it is less expensive, but also because every item has some kind of history. It's been well loved, it has memories, and I want to give it life again. :D

I started thrifting because as a high school student without a job, I am quite broke, and I was wasting my money on clothing that I bought just because it was cheap and didn't really like. I was watching youtube videos of people styling thrifted pieces and I thought I might try it out and I haven't gone back since. :)
