Depending on what you're going to wear it with, plain could be best BUT where's the fun in that ;)
You could add some studs, definitely not on the strap though.. I would get some like this ebay.co.uk/itm/100-pcs-Brass-Pyramid-Studs-10mm-Rock-Design-spikes-spots-duty-DIY-JPSC002-/140669532394?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20c08eb8ea and probably cluster them in one corner of the front flap.

bedazzzle. I love the styles bedazzling does! but uhh if you want something crazy you could paint it or sew patches onto it. iron on patches are amazing.

You should add some spikes to it, or you could always try to throw some bleach on it if you don't want to spend any money.
