Bleach vs Color Removing on denim...HELP!

I have some dark denim vests that I'm planning on dyeing lighter colors, such as red or lime green, perhaps. To make sure the colors turn out as vibrant as possible, I was thinking it made sense to bleach the vests before dyeing, but would it make more sense to use RIT color remover instead? I don't have much experience with either, so I'm not sure which would be the better bet for use on lightening the dark blue denim and then dyeing there after.

bleach already does a pretty good job of removing color from denim. i've never used the fit color remover but see what fabric it is intended for. other textiles like cotton retain color differently from denim. if you're still not sure what to do, try googling examples/tutorials from people who bleached their denim clothes or used the RIT color remover on denim.

Put the piece of clothing in a bucket with 1/3 bleach and 2/3 water. Leave it for 10-20 minutes. Keep checking it to see how light you want it to be. Stir it around so it spreads evenly. Then just wash it out.
