I searched the site for a similar topic with no luck. If I missed it please feel free to direct me there. I`ve been itching to learn to sew with a machine but I want to be sure I make a good investment. I was hoping you other more experienced sewers out there could give me your advise on which model to buy that is relatively easy to use and has basic multiple features (i.e. button holes, can use elastic thread, etc.) Also my price range is about $200 (U.S.) Less would be amazing but I`d even go up to $250 for a really worthwhile product. Thank you so much!

A good sewing machine is usually around 300, but I recently finally bought one for myself at around 250. Joanne's fabric had a sale on singer machines, and so far, mine has been fantastic. I bought a heavy duty model because sometimes I work with upholstery fabrics, but there were several other models I saw there which are tailored to your own needs, and all looked easy to use. There's models that have lots of different stitches, many do button holes and come with different feet for different projects, etc. there was a booklet there as well, which had a comparison chart of what each model has and does not have, compared next to the others, I'd say go to Joanne's and check out the sale while you can!

New machines are rarely built to last. You might be better with an older machine that's stood the test of time. My mum has a great Singer machine from the 40's that's still going.
