So, what do you think about pink/blue/green/purple/orange/etc hair colours? Have you dyed your hair in such a colour? Would you do it? Share pictures and tips.

Ive always used pravana bovids and Kodak intensity, because I have I license and it's more convenient to purchase those than order anything. I'm growing out colour right now, but I've done almost everything.
Green, blue, pink, purple, red, orange, silver, white, lavender, peroxide blonde, burgundy, dark blonde with highlights, brown, black... I'm done coloring, I just want it to grow long now. :)
I'm mobile right now so I don't have pics, but I just posted some on my blog the other day.

i really love unnatural colours on hair but i've stopped doing it lately because it's a lot of maintenance and i'm lazy. i normally only colour a strip underneath too when i actually prefer a dipdye look but i'm not brave enough to try doing that myself.
this is a mix of directions flamingo pink and violet:
i used directions turquoise once too but it took forever to fade out and went a really crap colour while it was fading out, that's why i prefer pinks.
excuse the bad pic btw. don't have many that actually show the colour.

I've hardly even seen my real hair colour in the past ten years. Usually red, orange, or purple, but I've had pink, green, and yellow as well. Currently it's a bright pinkish red — it's a lot more vibrant and neon-like than I was expecting, but it's all right I guess (you can see the colour in my most recent look). I think I'll probably go a bit darker next time. I usually use Punky Colour or Special FX.
Something a lot of people do is use too high of a volume of bleach. My hair is quite dark and I still only use 30 volume, and I've gotten decent results with 20 volume as well. 40 should really only be used for highlights or tips, nothing near your scalp.

I would love to throw some pastels in for spring! Just temporary though. I get tired of colors quickly.

Before I went red I toyed around with blues and purples, but I've now been red (in varying shades) for about four-five years. It's not exactly crazy, but it's unnatural all the same.
I dye my hair once a month using whichever bright red dye is on offer. My best maintenance tips would be mixing a little wash-in-wash-out colour in with your shampoo and using deep conditioning treatments shortly after dying. I also use intensive serums on my hair after washing to stop the colour drying it out too much.
I wish I had the guts to try either candyfloss pink or mermaid green, but now that my hair is so long I wouldn't dare bleach it - I've known too many girls having to chop off lovely long locks after they were fried by bleach.

I loooove your hair colour! It really suits you :-)
I used to have very brightly coloured hair. My best friend was training to be a hair dresser and as I was the only person not in an office job, I was her Guinea Pig. I had all sorts of bright colour streaks but my favourite was when she did it hot pink.

I tried dying my hair hot pink when I was 16. It wound up terracotta.
I wish I could do it again now but I don't think it would be the best choice for work.

I've dip-dyped mine purple (I have highlighted/dyed blonde hair). It's faded pretty quick because I used a pretty rubbish dye, but I love it. I've ordered some hot pink to re-do it also, if I like the colour I will dye it all pink-- I love how it fades gradually to a 'pinky blonde' lol. Sort of pastel I guess.
But yeah I like the idea of semi perms, then you are never stuck with anything!

That's not creepy, that's really sweet! It's been my project for quite some time to get it as long and as red as possible (well, without bleach anyway...).
Thanks Lucy and Hannah too :)

I suppose my main tip would be learning to trim your hair yourself so that you can avoid putting your hair at the mercy of scissor happy hairdressers. A good serum can also minimise salon trips. I get one thorough professional trim a year then keep on top of split ends myself.
Truth is it's a slow process. I started growing my hair out from shoulder length about three and a half years ago.
Colouring doesn't help really. Avoid bleach and take very good care of coloured hair.

Your hair is just delightful! It's feminine and edgy at the same time. I love it!
And Megan M - your long, red locks are BEAUTIFUL! I had bright red hair for some years and it was great fun :-)
Now I'm a bit more boring with my auburn hair! But it's by no means my natural hair colour :-) I like it a lot but I'm thinking of going for a plum shade.
For a while a few months back I dyed the main body of my hair black and I bleached my fringe when I went through a rockabilly phase!
It was fun but difficult to maintain.

I'm dying to do a lavender/teal dip-dye in my hair, but a) I haven't got the courage b) I'd probably have to bleach the crap out of it and c) knowing me, I'd want my natural hair colour back in a few days. /:

I had a burgundy/wine color a few months ago. My hair is currently pink all over :) It started out dark pink and faded to punch pink in some places and pale pink in others. I was going to do sky blue next, but I think I'm done with bleach. It's ruining my hair beyond belief. I had to use two bottles of bleach. So no more crazy colors for me :/
Btw I used Splat Rose Pink and I use Hot Topic War Paint pink color conserve shampoo. It's lasted nearly 6 weeks so far and hasn't faded that much at all.

Right now I have Electric Turquoise hair, and I love it. It makes anything I wear look more different and it makes me recognizable whenever I go out. I had cotton candy pink hair for a bit (latest submission) But it was very hard to keep even. The shade it is right now is lovely though, second time I've used this dye, I love it!

I want to try dying my hair a light pastel/cottoncandy type pink but I don't think it will suit me to dye my whole hair that colour and will be hard to maintain, so I'm considering just dying the ends like you did, that looks really nice <3

I really want sea green hair, but I bleached my hair twice in 2010. Then I dyed it brown at the beginning of 2011. Then I dyed it black 3 times over 2011. But I haven't dyed it in like 6 months and all the black faded to a dark brown, the bottom inch of my hair faded the most to like a medium brown, and I have like 2-3 inches of light ashy brown roots.
I'm just worried if I bleach my hair to white again that a ton of it will just break off.
I mean I don't have terribly damaged hair, but I have tons of split ends. I haven't had a trim in over a year because I'm trying to grow my hair.

Regular trimming is a must, about every three-four months, when you grow your hair. Split ends can ruin everything.

I already had red, orange and purple in the whole hair and blue and orange in some parts of it. I'm letting it breathe and thinking of something to do with it, maybe a rainbow in a part of it, maybe a cotton-candy or baby-blue ombre, maybe a bright ginger. Don't know yet.
But right now, I have brown hair, its natural color. It's growing, and my fringe is all natural now. I applied the ink when it was orange, so it's fading away and it looks like a really well-done ombre.

even with bleach my hair was still a bit green from it after ahahaha.

My dream colour is a hot pink on half of my head but my hair is extremely difficult to bleach. Since it's a mix of african and indian texture it's taking forever to get to that right shade of blonde.
This is the closest I've gotten it so far.

My hair has been all sorts of colors. Right now it has a bleach gradient of orange to gold (my hair is very dark), but I have had many streaks in the past. In order of the colors I've dyed: red, pink, red again, purple (which never lasts), blue (which I dye my whole head so it's dark but blue in the sun), and then to bleach and black. Splat red probably stayed the best out of anything, though the midnight blue lasted a long time as well (forget the company, though).

I've dyed my hair a lot over the past few years. Currently it's turquoise/green/blue
Over the past year I've had pink and peach as well.
Top tips? Er I always mix dyes so that none can achieve the same colour as me. My current colour is a mix of turquoise, blue and silver. Sometimes I even mix different brands together.
If you want a more pastel tone and less vibrant you can mix the dye down with conditioner and it will make it more pastel.
If you don't and you want your hair as vibrant as possible and for the colour to stay in as long as possible, leave dye in your hair for as long as possible. A few people have told me they try and sleep with theirs in over night. I normally do a couple of hours. Because most semi permanent dyes are conditioning it isn't going to damage your hair like other dyes might.

Yeah I agree with Monica, trim them ends regularly. Your hair will be in so much better condition and will mean you can bleach back easier as split ends will travel up to the roots if left too long. It will also mean your hair will grow faster because it's more healthy!
But yeah, I made the same mistake when I was 16/17. Really wanted long hair so never got it cut and when I finally went to a hairdressers because I couldn't handle my frizzy unhealthy hair anymore I had to get 4 inches cut off. Heartbreaking for someone trying to grow their hair out long.
After you get it cut the trick to bleaching your hair back to blonde is by doing it in several steps. Don't try to go to white in one step. Bleach your hair say three or four times at a low peroxide volume. It will be gross colours for a while but your hair will love you for not ruining it. Condition well after bleaching and leave at least a week before trying the next bleaching stage. It sounds gross but when I started bleaching my hair I would use mayonnaise mixed with vanilla essence as a condition because it's really good at conditioning hair! My hairs in perfect health now.
