Hi there :-) I think you should definitely invest in one. It is a standard lens for any camera, the image quality tends to be quite good no matter what make or range you buy into. I use a canon 50mm myself and it is handy. Hope that helped

If you haven't bought it yet, I can only agree with the above. It's my most-used lens, barely every leaves my camera!

just bought one last friday, all i can say is that im in love with it :) most 50mm lenses come with large aperture (the one i got has f/1.8) so you can shoot inside a building without raising the ISO too much or without using flash. moreover, you can shoot outside with very fast shutter speeds, and it creates that awesome DOF when you shoot something close to the lens like a flower, portrait, etc.

I was contemplating whether or not to invest in one myself and, judging by the feedback here, I think I definitely will now!

Not so fast. A 50mm prime is an absolute staple in every photographer's bag, but make sure it's a good quality lens. In addition I wouldn't get anything higher than a f1.8. The lower the better. F1.4 is great! F1.2 - awesome!

50mm is great. I have 50mm f1,4 for my canon and I think... It's the best lens for portraits! You can catch the light, colors. And take a wonderful shoots. :)
